The "Cheap and Cheerful" Wedding | Garrett and Taylor's New Moon Canmore Intimate Wedding

Plan B. Plan C. And sometimes even Plan D. I have worked with so many couples recently who have changed their wedding plans not once but many times.

Taylor and Garrett reached out to me wanting to plan the perfect mountain intimate wedding. Kinda like an elopement but with their besties and family there for the ceremony and some photos too. Then off for photos into all the cool mountain spots, including (duh) some night photos!

They LOVED my star photos of couples at night. I explained to them… these were so hard to guarantee. I explained what conditions we needed in order to get clear skies and also explained that booking their day on a new moon night would increase their chances of getting a dark sky that night.

They booked for the best night of the month in July for dark skies. We all crossed our fingers…

The entire time while planning I had zoom meetings and phone calls with these two and we never talked about star photos. We all agreed that if they happened then great but we all didn’t want to get our hopes up if in the event we had clouds that night and they were not possible to get.

The day came. Not only was it the perfect sunset but the sky cleared completely. I must have seen a dozen shooting stars during their night shoot that evening.

”Trying to plan a wedding during Covid was not the easiest thing to do. You make plans, then have to wait or cancel. Originally we have wanted to do an all inclusive beach wedding in the Dominican Republic. With multiple lock downs and the uncertainty we got frustrated with the whole process. This is not how you should feel when planning your special day. We decided the most important thing was us starting our married life together. We decided to cut down the wedding and only have immediate family and best friends attend our ceremony.

We called this a “cheap and cheerful” wedding.

We wanted to have the memories of our wedding captured and this is when we found Sofia. Sof was not only our photographer, but she also basically planned our wedding. We explained what we were looking for and she gave us a few dates to pick from based on her expertise, explained best timing for ceremony and photos. We listened to all her advice and could not be happier. Sof made everything easy and we did not worry about a thing and she made us feel very comfortable. People always ask us if we would change our decision to get married when and how we did, and we always answer no.

The choice we made to have a small intimate wedding made the day all about the love we share for one another, and not about anyone else.
